10 Group - St Agnes Head, Cornwall
Lawrence and Chris Holmes from No 10 Group attended the ceremony at St Agnes.
“The lighting took place inside the small compound round the St Agnes Head Coastguard Lookout. This is very near the cliffs/sea and faces west. The result was that we got a fantastic sunset.
The site is not a normal beacon site. St Agnes Beacon (Armada beacon site) is some 1 mile inland on a high hill. I helped to build and then light the 1977 beacon for the Silver Jubilee which is on top of the Armada Beacon hill”
The Chairman of St Agnes Parish Council, who organised the event, read the proclamation. James Churchfield from BBC Radio Cornwall was also present and later interviewed Lawrence and Chris “asking us why we had attended the St Agnes Beacon lighting. I did manage to get in the ROC and our beacon lighter badge followed by the main reason – the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee”
