Heritage Day Tours Bentley Priory 7th 8th & 9th September 2012
A weekend to remember from Edwina Holden National Heritage Officer
Several of us spent time at Bentley Priory over the weekend. The Spitfire and Hurricane were being erected when we arrived on Friday morning, the unveiling was on Saturday with Bam Bamburger's wife doing the honours on his Spitfire.
The WAAF window (The Dowding System) was also unveiled on Saturday.
Beside 'our' window is a window depicting the blitz/civil defence which doesn't have natural light behind because it is in the wall which has been constructed to close off the corridor to the dining room.
So many changes but everything has been done so tastefully with so much vision.
The tours were very popular with one taking place every hour on Friday and Sunday (Saturday was invitation only). The weather was wonderful, we enjoyed our varied duties and just being part of history. Edwina.
