STOKE GOLDING ABOVE AND UNDERGROUND POSTS - 30th August 2025
On 30th August, John Shere, Andrew Ramek and I from the National Heritage Team made our annual pilgrimage to the Stoke Golding Posts in Leicestershire for the ROCA Open Day. This is to remember the late Terry Bottrill who restored the Underground Post, sourced the instruments and when he discovered the remnants of the brick built Wartime Post adjacent to the Underground Post built a replica.
Each year Terry’s widow Anne and daughter Helena host an ROCA Open Day with a sumptuous lunch in a marquee. The Heritage Team are always pleased to raise a glass of Pimms to the memory of Terry who left such a wonderful legacy of ROC history.
The Posts and marquees are set up by the members of No 8 Group Coventry who maintain the area in pristine condition throughout the year. During the day 99 members of the public went into the Underground Post to hear the history which was given in rotation by members of the Post team.
Another enjoyable day with good friends.
